Residents of Ojuleru community in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos, have condemned a midnight demolition exercise that left several families homeless, describing it as “heartless” and “an assault on humanity.”

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when bulldozers, escorted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), stormed the community and pulled down structures after forcing occupants out of their homes. Men, women, and children were reportedly left stranded in the open without alternative shelter.

The operation was allegedly carried out on the directive of the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, with claims that it had the backing of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the traditional ruler of Oworonshoki.

Reacting, Ambassador Moyosore Badejo (MOG) described the exercise as inhumane and accused the community’s monarch of betraying his people.

“Governance is not about midnight demolitions, intimidation, or displacement. It is about building, protecting, and empowering people. Anything less is tyranny,” he said.

Badejo further urged the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, community leaders, and Lagos residents to rise against what he termed a “barbaric act.”

As at press time, efforts to get a response from the Oloworo’s palace were unsuccessful.

The incident has renewed concerns over forced evictions and recurring land disputes in Lagos communities.
