Otunba Segun Adewale, a prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party after nearly two decades of active membership, citing deep-seated internal crises and what he described as sabotage from within.

In a letter dated September 19, 2025, and addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland, said his resignation took effect immediately. He blamed his exit on the alleged stranglehold of Chief Bode George and his loyalists, accusing them of weakening the party’s electoral chances in Lagos and beyond.

According to Adewale, George and his associates have repeatedly collaborated with opposition forces while evading accountability, a pattern he said has left the PDP in perpetual decline. “Key factors driving my decision include Bode George’s actions and those of his associates, who consistently undermine the party’s electoral success by collaborating with opposition forces,” the letter read in part.

He further accused George of encouraging PDP members to defect to other parties, including the Labour Party and the Action Democratic Party (ADP), for personal gains — moves that, he argued, deepened the party’s factional wars.

Lamenting the PDP’s dwindling fortunes, Adewale said the once-dominant party has been reduced to a shadow of itself, consumed by endless power struggles and bereft of visionary leadership.

“For these reasons, I, Otunba Segun Adewale, resign from PDP. I’ll communicate next steps in my political journey to supporters soon. Currently, I’m focusing on business and family, neglected over 15 years of political pursuit,” he wrote.

Adewale’s resignation adds to the mounting challenges facing the PDP, which has in recent years suffered high-profile defections, internal wrangling, and successive electoral setbacks across different states.
