The President of Ta’awun Humanitarian Forum, Lagos, Taiwo Lasisi, has shared his reflections on the recent return of Bukunmi Preacher to Nigeria — an event widely described as “Japada,” a term referring to those relocating back home after living abroad.

In a video clip that has circulated online, Bukunmi Preacher opened up about his experiences overseas and the reasons behind his decision to return to Nigeria. Reacting to the development, Lasisi emphasized that the decision to stay abroad or remain in one’s home country ultimately depends on individual goals and destiny.

“Everything in life is a choice. You stay anywhere that fits your personal goals and lifestyle. Many think Japa is their breakthrough in life, not the quality of life they would have abroad, while others believe they must live and die in Nigeria — whether or not their breakthrough lies here or elsewhere,” Lasisi stated.

He urged Nigerians to pursue their dreams wherever they believe fulfillment lies — whether within or outside the country — stressing that destiny is not uniform for all.

“If what you aim to achieve in life is here at home, pursue it. But if your fulfillment lies abroad, work towards it. We all have different destinies — some can be achieved in our homeland, others only offshore. The script has been dried and the pen has been raised, as the Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW) recounted,” he added.

Lasisi also praised Bukunmi Preacher’s courage to return home, noting that his decision exemplifies faith, planning, and purpose.

“Just have a plan in what you do and consult your immediate family — your wife, husband, or trusted loved ones,” he advised.

The remarks have sparked conversation across social media, reigniting discourse around Japa and Japada — two sides of Nigeria’s ongoing migration narrative that continue to shape the ambitions and realities of many citizens today.
