THE SWEEPTAKES ANALOGICAL THEORY: UNDERSTANDING THE ULTIMATE MEANING OF IJEBU STATE OR IJEBU-REMO STATE

Share the news

I will answer you. If allowed to take place, what is about to happen is called “sweeptakes” in the new political theory. It’s totally undignifying and humiliating.

For example, assuming a given tribal setting under a unified name is called “Atara” all the people there will be called Atara people or “Ataras”. Now where the territory is comprising of many communities that make up Atara, for example, Ibape, Ilora, Ibamu, all these places will be known as “Ataraland”, thus will be called: Atara-Ibape, Atara-Ilora, Atara-Ibamu etc.

Now supposed where in situation a section of the entire Ataraland e.g Atara-Ibamu suddenly detaches itself for political reason and issues a dichotomous pronouncement saying “I am now only to be identified as “Ibamu” pursuing a separatist agenda cunningly, yet by historically cultural and political proportion, we all know, it is Atara-Ibamu and can never detach itself from historical claim of the name for any reason.

It now happens that a State agenda is being pursued for which Ibamu is forever known as Atara-Ibamu, where in the State creation exercise all communities in Atara are to be called and exist as “Atara State” with which Atara-Ibamu is to be identified. Suddenly, Atara-Ibamu now claims that its name should be given to all other lands in Atara, thus instead of calling it “Atara State”, it should now be called “Atara-Ibamu State”, citing comparison in other places like Akwa-Ibom which if compared to the existing situation, does not relate or share historic or political proportions. This is called “comparative disadvantage”.

All in the name of getting the State at all cost, they now give them “Atara-Ibamu State ” with the capital in one of the Ataraland, let’s say Atara-Ibape, under the sweeptakes theory, automatically all lands in Atara have been forfeited to the new political entity that now controls Ataraland, indirectly, the entire Ataraland now comes under Atara-Ibamu, losing their historical, cultural and political identity to a section that sweeps all their names.

The idea of Atara-Ibape retaining capital has no meaning or sense, it automatically comes under Atara-Ibamu under the new government. The cunning thing here is that Atara-Ibamu by means of land expansion identity, has used political means of using its name to take over the entire land and community of Atara which others don’t take cognizance of. It has indirectly brought Atara-Ibape under its control, hence being a capital of Atara-Ibamu itself. A humiliation of the highest order.

Now these are the dangers of sweeptakes:

  1. Loss of identity to a sectionalised region.
  2. Perpetual Internal conflict among the communities
    etc

So rather than solving a problem, sweeptakes merely creates another problem for the new State.

Replacing Ijebu State with Ijebu-Remo State is called “sweeptakes”. It portends doom and failure, in fact severe conflict in the future.
If you don’t see it now, I see it ahead of you
