Comrade Ayanfe Omojuwa has criticised the management of public funds at the local government level, describing it as a system “sandwiched between selfishness and recklessness.”
Omojuwa made the remarks in response to a KosofePost publication titled “Fuel Subsidy Removal: A Blessing for Local Governments or a Gateway for Misuse?” published on October 18, 2025.
Reacting through the comment section of the news platform, he noted that while the removal of fuel subsidy had expanded fiscal inflows to local councils, the physical benefits at the grassroots remained “contestable.”
He argued that the core management principles of planning, organising, coordinating, and control were poorly implemented across local government administrations due to weak fiscal discipline, lack of adherence to development plans, and inconsistent government policies.
Omojuwa further decried what he described as a “culture of mismanagement,” where public funds are “pocketed or misspent” without accountability. He urged for the establishment of effective systems to ensure transparency and sanction erring officials.
“So far, more money allocated to the councils amounts to more mourning by the people rather than bringing more honey to the people,” Omojuwa lamented.
His comment adds to the growing public discourse on the utilisation of post-subsidy revenues by local governments and the need for stronger financial oversight at the grassroots level.
