The Kosofe Local Government, under the leadership of Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, has announced a ₦100 million empowerment initiative aimed at supporting artisans, tradesmen, widows, youths, and the general public.

According to a flyer obtained by KosofePost, the programme will be rolled out in four phases between November 17 and December 8, as part of ongoing efforts to cushion the economic hardship faced by grassroots residents and promote self-reliance within the community.

While political stakeholders have praised the council chairman for what they describe as a “progressive and impactful step,” critics argue that social welfare programmes should be institutionalised rather than seasonal or politicised, noting that effective empowerment requires long-term planning, skills development, and sustainable capacity building. Questions have also been raised about whether the ₦100 million will sufficiently address the economic challenges of the intended beneficiaries.

Despite these concerns, the initiative represents one of the largest single empowerment interventions announced by Kosofe Local Government in recent years, reflecting the administration’s commitment to supporting residents at the grassroots level.
