The Leader in Council of the Kosofe Legislative Arm, Hon. Femi Oyesile, has clarified that the ₦100 million empowerment initiative recently announced by the executive arm of the Kosofe Local Government did not require legislative approval through a supplementary budget before implementation.

Responding to an enquiry from a KosofePost correspondent, Oyesile explained that empowerment programmes initiated by the executive arm fall within its administrative powers and can be executed without prior legislative consent.

He, however, assured that the legislative arm would carry out its oversight responsibilities during the 2026 budget defence to ensure transparency and accountability in accordance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The legislative arm under my leadership will thoroughly examine the records of all Heads of Departments during the 2026 budget defence, after our retreat, to ensure proper checks and balances,” Oyesile stated.

He further assured residents that the forthcoming 2026 budget would undergo full legislative scrutiny before any expenditure is approved.

Meanwhile, the former Kosofe Local Government Leader in Council, Hon. Idowu Oluloro, declined to confirm whether the ₦100 million empowerment initiative was captured in the 2025 budget passed under his leadership.

Oluloro simply stated that he was no longer in office and could not comment on the matter.
