As Nigeria ushered in the year 2026, prominent political leaders across Lagos East Senatorial District and the Kosofe axis have rolled out New Year messages centred on hope, unity, grassroots development and inclusive growth.

In his New Year address, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Tokunbo Mikhail Abiru (FCA), extended warm greetings to residents of the district, Lagos State and Nigerians nationwide. He described the New Year as a period of reflection and renewal, urging citizens to consolidate existing gains while expanding empowerment opportunities, particularly for young people. Abiru reaffirmed his commitment to policies that promote economic stability and inclusive growth, stressing that development must reach every ward and household within the district. He also pointed to early signs of national economic recovery and called on Nigerians to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as it implements reforms aimed at strengthening the economy, improving infrastructure and ensuring long-term prosperity.

At the local government level, the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, Barrister Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, thanked residents for their support throughout 2025 and outlined ambitious plans for 2026. He disclosed that the New Year would witness expanded road construction across all wards, the rollout of a ₦300 million empowerment scheme, improvements in healthcare delivery, upgrades to educational infrastructure and the commissioning of a new Council Secretariat Hall. Ogunlewe assured residents of his administration’s continued commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, and representative of Kosofe Constituency 01, Hon. Reflecting on 2025, he expressed gratitude for the trust and support of residents, while reaffirming his dedication to people-oriented legislation and sustainable grassroots development. He urged Nigerians to embrace unity, collaboration and resilience as tools for collective progress.

The Member of the House of Representatives for Kosofe Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, also thanked constituents for their patience and consistent support. She pledged continued genuine service, attentive leadership and tireless advocacy for the development of Kosofe, while praying for peace, renewed hope and positive transformation in 2026.

From Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, the Chairman, Mayoress Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada (MNIM), described 2026 as a year of hope and progress. She called on youths, women and eligible residents to participate actively in civic duties, particularly the Permanent Voter Card registration scheduled to commence in January, stressing that civic engagement remains crucial to sustaining democratic growth.
