APC Tensions Deepen in Kosofe as Internal Disputes Spill Into Courts

Share the news

Fresh cracks have emerged within the Kosofe chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as internal disagreements among party stakeholders increasingly spill beyond party mechanisms into police stations and courtrooms.

Politics, often described as a game of conflict management and resolution through leadership, appears to be taking a different turn in Kosofe, where aggrieved members are turning to legal redress over intra-party disputes. Observers say the trend reflects concerns about the strength of internal leadership and the effectiveness of conflict-resolution structures within the chapter.

Multiple cases involving party members are reportedly pending before the courts. The most recent is a suit instituted by the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyosore Ogunlewe, against Mr. Saliu Adekunle, a supervisor-councillor nominee listed among prospective members of the yet-to-be-announced Kosofe Local Government cabinet submitted to the Lagos State Government.

While details of the matter remain subject to judicial proceedings, stakeholders emphasise that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven otherwise by a competent court of law.

Reactions within the party have been mixed. Some members argue that Ogunlewe’s decision to pursue legal action is within his rights, particularly as a means to protect his reputation and deter alleged defamation or character attacks. Others, however, contend that similar accusations have historically been managed through internal party channels, warning that resorting to litigation could open the floodgates to more courtroom battles within the party.

There is also growing concern about the potential working relationship between the chairman and the nominee should the latter eventually assume office under the current administration. Party watchers caution that unresolved tensions may create a strained or hostile administrative environment if reconciliation efforts are not prioritised.

Analysts say the development highlights broader questions around party supremacy, internal discipline, and cohesion at both the local government and state levels. They warn that prolonged legal confrontations among party actors could further test unity within the Kosofe chapter.

KosofePost reports that it will continue to monitor developments surrounding the case and other related legal matters in the coming weeks.
