The Nagazi-Uvete Islamic Center has announced the commencement of its 1447AH/2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme to support orphans, widows and vulnerable families in Okene, Kogi State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Chief Imam of Nagazi-Uvete Jumu’ah and Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Okene’s Mosques, Murtadha Muhammad Gusau, called on well-meaning Muslims and members of the public to support the annual humanitarian initiative.

According to him, feeding those who fast — particularly orphans, the poor and the needy — remains a noble act of charity that attracts divine mercy and blessings during the holy month of Ramadan.

Quoting Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), he said: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting in the slightest from the reward of the fasting person.” (Al-Tirmidhi).

The Imam disclosed that for over 25 years, the Islamic centre has consistently distributed food items and provided iftar meals to needy Muslim families during Ramadan. With support from donors, the initiative has reportedly reached more than 10,000 vulnerable families since its inception.

For the 1447AH/2026 Ramadan exercise, each food pack is estimated to cost ₦2,000, with plans to expand outreach and cater to more beneficiaries across the community, In Shaa Allah.

The Nagazi-Uvete Islamic Center, described as a non-profit, non-partisan and non-sectarian organisation based in Okene, was established to provide relief and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable groups. Through its Ramadan Feeding Programme, the centre aims to restore dignity, spread hope and share the blessings of the sacred month with struggling families.

The organisation emphasised that trust and accountability remain central to its operations, noting that the well-being of beneficiaries depends on the responsible management of donations.
