Kosofe Local Government’s political space is witnessing heightened competition as multiple aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) declare interest in the Constituency I race, despite earlier advice on legislative continuity from Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa, speaking during the first anniversary of the current Kosofe lawmaker representing Kosofe 2, Hon. Femi Saheed, in office, had urged party members and constituents to value continuity in representation, noting that experienced lawmakers bring greater development and legislative impact to their communities.

However, recent developments suggest that his advice has not curbed political ambitions. Both seasoned contestants and new entrants are now in the race, setting the stage for a keenly contested primary ahead of the next election cycle.

Observers see the growing list of aspirants as a direct challenge to the presumed third-term ambition of the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, with opposition within party ranks continuing to gain momentum.

Historically, Kosofe Constituency I has recorded long legislative tenures. Senator Sikiru Adebayo, Okanlawon’s predecessor, served four consecutive terms spanning 16 years, a benchmark often cited in debates about continuity and governance experience.

As political activities intensify, party members and constituents are expected to play decisive roles in determining whether continuity or change will shape Kosofe’s next legislative chapter.
