The atmosphere was charged and celebratory on Thursday as Hon. Femi Saheed, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, formally declared his intention to seek re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The well-attended event drew party faithful, community leaders, religious representatives from both the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslim groups, as well as stakeholders and supporters from across the constituency’s seven political wards. Many described the gathering as a reflection of confidence in what they termed “people-centred representation.”
In his address, Saheed, who chairs the House Committee on Finance, urged constituents to assess his performance objectively, emphasising transparency and accountability.
“Across the seven political wards, our achievements are not mere words; they are visible, verifiable, and impactful,” he said.
Highlighting his legislative and developmental record, the lawmaker pointed to his involvement in key bills and motions, as well as contributions to fiscal oversight. He referenced the Lagos State Sovereign Bond and the pioneering green bond initiative in sub-Saharan Africa as part of his achievements.
On infrastructure, Saheed noted that his tenure has seen the completion of 13 roads, including Olaniyi Road, Olawaseun Road, and Church Street. He pledged that, if re-elected, he would intensify efforts to attract more projects and strengthen legislative interventions that directly benefit residents.
“Our needs are unlimited, but we will continue striving to meet them. By God’s grace, we will keep working to satisfy the aspirations of our people,” he added.
Saheed also aligned his message with broader party narratives, commending the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while urging constituents to support candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across all levels in the forthcoming elections.
He expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, for entrusting him with the finance committee role, describing it as a responsibility that has strengthened his resolve to deliver more.
The declaration was accompanied by endorsements from various groups, including market leaders, religious bodies, and party stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, APC Chairman in Agboyi-Ketu, Hon. Sunday Odekomaya, described Saheed as the “best option for continuity,” cautioning against disrupting what he called a trajectory of progress.
Similarly, the Vice Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Hon. Suleiman Salawe, praised Saheed’s loyalty and performance, arguing that a renewed mandate would ensure consolidation of ongoing efforts.
Market leaders also mobilised support, urging traders—particularly women—to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and back the incumbent.
The dominant message from the event was a strong call for continuity, stability, and sustained development in Kosofe Constituency II.
As chants of support echoed through the venue, the declaration signalled not just the start of a re-election campaign, but also a demonstration of Saheed’s political strength within the constituency as the 2027 race gradually takes shape.
