A leading aspirant for the Kosofe Federal Constituency seat, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, has expressed confidence of securing a landslide victory in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election scheduled for Friday.
Oshinowo, the immediate past Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, gave the assurance on Thursday during the APC Mega Rally for Stronger Representation held in Ikosi-Isheri.
Addressing party supporters and stakeholders, Oshinowo said the overwhelming support from APC leaders, members, and residents across Kosofe had strengthened his belief that he would emerge victorious at the primary.
According to him, the large turnout at the rally and growing support across the constituency reflected the people’s desire for a new phase of representation.
“This is the people of the constituency that have taken up the responsibility of making sure I win landslide tomorrow at the primary election,” he said.
The former council chairman assured party members that the exercise would be peaceful, stressing that his supporters were committed to maintaining order during the process.
“We are going there to give them an enabling playing ground. All the aspirants will be there and you will see the people of Kosofe Constituency voting for me and making me their representative at the end of tomorrow,” Oshinowo stated.
Highlighting his achievements as chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, he said his administration transformed governance at the grassroots through infrastructure development, empowerment programmes, and people-oriented initiatives.
“We have changed the narrative at the grassroots level. We have given them what many local governments have not experienced in their lives,” he said.
Oshinowo added that if elected to the House of Representatives, he would focus on institutionalising empowerment programmes and delivering quality representation rather than temporary political gestures.
“I am not going there to start giving people wheelbarrows as empowerment. I am going there to institutionalise empowerment and provide the best representation for our people,” he added.
He further stated that his grassroots governance experience had adequately prepared him for legislative responsibilities at the national level, particularly in policy formulation aimed at improving the lives of residents.
The aspirant also referenced the support he claimed to enjoy from key APC leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
“We have been recognised as one of the best grassroots administrations in Nigeria, and the people believe we can replicate that performance at the federal level,” he said.
Speaking at the rally, the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, expressed optimism about Oshinowo’s chances in the primary election.
According to her, one female aspirant had already stepped down for Oshinowo, while discussions were ongoing with another aspirant ahead of the exercise.
“We are ready to go to the primary to choose the APC candidate for Kosofe Federal Constituency, and we are confident our candidate will emerge victorious,” Bada said.
She also disclosed that APC leader Otunba Bushira Alebiosu had encouraged party members to come out massively to support Oshinowo at the primary election.
The APC primary election for the Kosofe Federal Constituency seat is expected to hold on Friday amid growing political activities and alignments within the constituency.
