Ahead of the May 20 All Progressives Congress (APC) direct primary election, one of the frontline aspirants for the Kosofe Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Bintu Fatimat Akerele-Shobaloju Esq., has appealed to party delegates, leaders, stakeholders, and loyal supporters to back her candidacy.

Speaking in an interview with KosofePost on Monday in Lagos, Akerele-Shobaloju said her aspiration is driven by competence, dedication to service, loyalty to the APC, and a genuine commitment to grassroots development.

According to her, the forthcoming primary election presents an opportunity to strengthen inclusive representation and deepen people-oriented leadership within Kosofe Constituency I.

She explained that her ambition goes beyond personal interest, noting that her participation is also aimed at encouraging greater female involvement in politics and governance.

“When women rise, communities become stronger and democracy becomes more inclusive,” she said.

The legal practitioner described herself as a servant-leader who understands the realities facing residents and is prepared to work diligently for the progress of the constituency.

“My journey as a legal practitioner has taught me the importance of justice, accountability, and service to humanity,” she stated.

“Beyond the courtroom, my mentorship experience under Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has further shaped my understanding of purposeful leadership, grassroots engagement, and compassionate governance.”

Akerele-Shobaloju added that the First Lady’s commitment to empowerment, education, and social development continues to inspire her political journey.

“As I approach the APC primary election, I remain committed to a leadership style that is accessible, people-centered, inclusive, and focused on delivering practical solutions to the challenges facing Kosofe Constituency I,” she said.

She reaffirmed her commitment to the ideals of the APC, stressing the need for unity, development, and effective representation within the constituency.

Focus on Youths, Women, and Grassroots Development

While acknowledging the contributions of the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Ganiyu Sanni, Akerele-Shobaloju said her administration, if elected, would focus on strengthening legislative advocacy in areas directly affecting residents.

According to her, priority areas would include youth empowerment, women inclusion, healthcare accessibility, education support, environmental sanitation, community security, and economic opportunities for small business owners.

She also promised to prioritise vocational training and digital empowerment initiatives aimed at preparing young people for emerging opportunities in the modern economy.

“As someone deeply connected to the grassroots, I understand the importance of responsive representation, regular engagement with constituents, and ensuring that government policies truly reflect the needs of the people,” she said.

The female aspirant added that her goal is to provide energetic, innovative, and inclusive representation capable of complementing ongoing development efforts while opening new opportunities for residents.

Encourages Women to Participate in Politics

Speaking on women’s participation in politics, Akerele-Shobaloju encouraged young women and female APC members not to underestimate their ability to lead and contribute meaningfully to society.

“Politics should not be seen as a space reserved for men alone,” she said.

“Women bring strength, compassion, intelligence, and unique perspectives that are essential for balanced governance and sustainable development.”

“I want every young woman watching this journey to understand that their dreams are valid and achievable through dedication, consistency, and active participation.”
