Controversy Trails Social Media Report Claiming APC Candidate List Is Under Review

By Bilesanmi Abayomi

A recent social media broadcast by Ijobaibile TV on the status of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate list has sparked widespread controversy, with party members and political stakeholders dismissing the claims as misinformation.

In a programme titled “Political Updates: APC Final Candidate List Review,” the platform alleged that the APC National Working Committee was reviewing candidate nominations in several constituencies across Lagos State over alleged electoral irregularities.

According to the broadcast, the status of certain constituencies remained uncertain, describing the situation as a “50-50” possibility.

The constituencies reportedly under scrutiny included Agege State Constituency, Alimosho Federal Constituency, Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Kosofe Federal Constituency and State Constituency, Somolu State Constituency, and Badagry State Constituency.

However, the claims were met with immediate rejection by many residents and party stakeholders, particularly from the Kosofe Federal Constituency, who accused the platform of spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary confusion within the party.

Reacting to the broadcast, several commentators insisted that the party’s nomination process had already been concluded and that the final candidate list had been submitted through the appropriate channels.

“The final list has been released, so there is no going back; the list is sealed,” said Makinde Kazeem Horlarkunley Kazmak.

Another commenter, Reformer Olusegun Damilare-Ojo III, urged the platform to retract its claims, stating: “Nothing is changing or under review; please stop misleading the general public.”

Other users also criticised the report, with many expressing concern over the growing spread of unverified political information on social media platforms. Some commenters bluntly described the claims as false and urged media platforms to prioritise accuracy and verification when reporting politically sensitive issues.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the APC leadership confirming any review of its final candidate list in Lagos State.

The controversy highlights the increasing role of social media in shaping political narratives and underscores the need for citizens to verify information through credible and official sources before drawing conclusions or sharing politically sensitive claims.
