The political contest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the Kosofe Federal Constituency of Lagos State has remained unsettled, with the incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, insisting that she has not conceded defeat in the party’s primary election.
Ogbara’s position comes despite her rival, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, being presented as the APC candidate and subsequently submitting his nomination forms to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on Sunday during TVC’s Hallowed Chambers: One on One with Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, the lawmaker said she could not officially declare herself defeated until INEC publishes its final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Ogbara also questioned the credibility of the results reportedly emerging from the APC primary, alleging that the figures did not accurately reflect the actual voting pattern.
She described the results as having been “written by someone else”, while saying she was reviewing the situation amid what she described as political intrigues, rumours and fabrications.
The lawmaker maintained that she enjoyed strong grassroots support in the constituency and remained confident of her standing among voters.
“I won the numbers in my constituency during the primary elections, and I remain the person the people want,” Ogbara said.
She added that she had continued with her legislative responsibilities and political engagements while awaiting a definitive position from the APC leadership and the electoral commission.
Meanwhile, Oshinowo has proceeded with the next stage of the electoral process after being declared the APC flagbearer for the Kosofe Federal Constituency. He recently submitted his nomination forms to INEC following the presentation of nomination documents to party candidates by the APC National Working Committee.
The dispute comes against the backdrop of INEC’s timetable for the 2027 general elections. Following a revision of its schedule of activities, the commission initially set July 11, 2026, as the deadline for the submission of nominations before extending the deadline to midnight on July 14.
With the nomination window now closed, attention has shifted to the official publication of candidates by INEC.
The publication is expected to provide greater clarity on the competing claims surrounding the APC’s Kosofe Federal Constituency ticket and determine whether Oshinowo’s candidacy will be the name officially listed for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
