Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has launched a council-wide door-to-door waste collection and environmental clean-up exercise across its seven political wards as part of efforts to address refuse accumulation and reduce public health risks.
The intervention, announced by the Office of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar, is being carried out in partnership with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and accredited Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators.
Heavy-duty compactor trucks have also been deployed to clear identified refuse black spots and support the evacuation of accumulated waste across communities.
According to the council, the exercise is aimed at reducing environmental conditions that could encourage the spread of disease and the proliferation of rodents and other disease-carrying pests.
Five-pronged environmental intervention
The clean-up exercise combines waste evacuation with household sensitisation and enforcement.
The council said its teams will identify and clear refuse from major black spots while also undertaking house-to-house collection to help residents dispose of accumulated waste and understand proper waste-storage practices.
The exercise also includes engagements with traders, landlords, tenants, Community Development Associations (CDAs), Community Development Committees (CDCs) and market leaders on waste management practices.
As part of its public awareness efforts, the council is deploying mobile public-address systems and broadcast jingles to discourage indiscriminate dumping.
The administration also said environmental officers will monitor compliance and enforce relevant environmental regulations against persistent violators.
Council seeks residents’ cooperation
The council has appealed to residents, business owners and community leaders across the seven wards to cooperate with the intervention teams and waste collection operators.
The administration said sustained community participation would be necessary to prevent the re-emergence of cleared refuse points and maintain improved environmental conditions across Agboyi-Ketu.
The intervention is being coordinated by the Agboyi-Ketu LCDA administration in collaboration with LAWMA and accredited PSP operators.
