The People’s Democratic Party PDP Lagos State Chapter ably led by Engr Adedeji Doherty hereby states in clear terms that the reduction of cost of nomination forms for candidates into the Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship and Councillors in the forthcoming council elections is totally unacceptable.
We are well aware that in the 2017 council elections, the highest amount charged by LASIEC for forms was N50,000.
On what premise, should the amounts be increased to N150,000 for Chairmen, N100,000 for Vice Chairmen and N75,000 for Councillors and subsequently reduced by 50%.
The Lagos State PDP further calls on the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Lagos State Government to come out clearly to state if LASIEC is a profit making organization.

In a state where the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) stands at about N40billion monthly, provisions are expected to be made for funding of council elections through budget allocation and not from trading in forms.
We are putting it to the Lagos State Government, that a government that preaches youth development should not be seen as stifling the same set of individuals.
Furthermore, considering the current economic hardship, effects of Covid19 and most importantly youth unemployment, nomination forms into any position in the forthcoming council elections for persons below the age of 45years should be free.
Council elections should basically be an election for Youths.
We are of the belief that, the Government should be seen as encouraging the Youths to join governance and policy making.
We in the Lagos State PDP however, appreciate the fact that our proposal as put forward by our Chairman, Engr Adedeji Doherty for the encouragement of Women was approved by LASIEC and further consolidated by LASIEC’s approval of “zero fees” for nomination forms for women interested in contesting for positions in the forthcoming council elections.
We hereby further advocate that having given women the noble concession, LASIEC and indeed the State Government should also consider extending same to persons below the age of 45years.
Our position in the Lagos State People’s Democratic Party is that forms should be free for women and persons below the age of 45years as a way of encouragement.
Signed:
Engr Adedeji Doherty
