Engr. Olushola Emmanuel Adedayo, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, has warned delegates not to sell their votes to moneybags or the highest bidders.
Adedayo dropped the warning while speaking with journalists on Tuesday morning in Kosofe ahead of the state and House of Representatives primary elections of the party.
He noted that instead, delegates should vote for people who are competent and of high integrity to bring about the desired change.
According to him, “Permit me to use this medium to appeal to voters to avoid voting for money bags or the highest bidders.” Don’t sell your freedom. They should abandon money politics. They should vote wisely. Vote for people who are competent and of integrity who will improve the living standards of constituents generally.”
He cited the case of the 2015 APC House of Assembly Primary election, where some justice forum wing of the party members allegedly betrayed Honourable Adedeji Busayo by voting for the late Senator Adebayo Osinowo after money changed hands.
He, however, enjoined the delegates not to see money as the ultimate priority, but rather that the contestants should reel out their achievements to the delegates.
He stressed further that those seeking to return, either at state or federal level, must appeal to the delegates by reeling out their 3 to 7-year office achievements.
“If they are to retain their seats, I think now that we are going for indirect primary, which is the use of delegates, they have to appeal to the minds of the delegates by reeling out their achievements on what they have done so far in 3 years, or some years in office,” Adedayo said.
“What are the laws they were able to sponsor or co-sponsor and eventually passed into law? What is the human capacity development they have been able to achieve in their constituency? What lives have they impacted? What motivates federal or state paraphernalia to reach their constituents? Have they been able to draw infrastructure development from the state to their respective constituencies?
“I believe these are very important in appeasing the minds of the electorates, which in this case are delegates,” he added.
While advising the contestants to shun do-or-die politics and avoid inciting their supporters to cause violence, he implored them, as they are approaching the party’s primary election, to not promote hooliganism and thuggery amongst their teeming supporters.
That, however, won’t impede on their chances of having another shot at their respective chambers.
He continued, “During the day of the election, they shouldn’t incite their supporters or teeming fans to cause trouble. They should allow the delegates to do their due diligence by performing their civil duty by voting for the right person they think can perform better or bring good representation to the constituency. “
