Olu of Agboyi Unity Cup: Real FC defeats Mayor FC 2-1

Real FC, on Sunday, won the 2nd edition of the 2022 Olu of Agboyi Unity Cup by beating Mayor FC 2-1 in the final game played at Agboyi 2 Primary School, Agboyi Ketu Lcda.

Success FC won third place after defeating Hollar FC 4-3 in a penalty shootout.The tournament featured sixteen teams across Lagos, Ogun State, and Southwestern Nigeria.

According to the initiator of the annual tournament, Olu of Agboyi, Hrm Oba Monsuru Abimbola Oladega Akinmasa1, the tournament was organized to foster unity among the youths and to empower them, adding that the community has many football talents.

Oba Oladega stated that: “Football, being a universal language that everyone understands, helps connect people together irrespective of tribal, political, or religious belief.

“It helps to unite people. This is what the Olu of Agboyi Unity Cup stands for; it is a unifying tool for the people of Awori land.”

Speaking after the match in Agboyi Town, Real FC handler, Jimoh Isiaka Oyeshola, said he’s happy with the outcome of the game, saying after the first edition in 2021, they went to the drawing board to achieve their aims in the second edition.

He said their target is to win the tournament while appreciating the efforts of their players. We won the competition because we corrected past mistakes with hard work and dedication from my boys.

“May God crown our effort with success.” Olu of Agboyi Kingdom HRM Oba Monsuru Abimbola Oladega was praised for bringing the youth together. 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Femi Saheeda, lauded the initiator of the competition, noting that indeed the competition has united youth together.

“Olu of Agboyi has demonstrated that through sport you can bring unity and development to the community.”

He noted that the large number of spectators demonstrated that sport can be used to foster inclusiveness in all of its forms.

He added that the monarch is using sport to take young people away from social vices and to promote unity and cooperation.

The lawmaker, who was amazed with the dexterity with which players played and talents were discovered, implored all other community leaders to explore and develop sport to the maximum level to discover more talents that will be of very good use to the community and society at large.

According to Organising Committee Chairman of the Agboyi Island Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Semiu Olorunnishola the tournament was organised to promote talents and appeal well meaning Nigerians for funds to upgrade the pitch.
 
The winner of the tournament is rewarded with N150,000, while the second runner-up gets N100,000.

The third and fourth positions received N70,000 and consolation prizes, respectively.

At the grand finale, Hon.Femi Saheed, representatives of Agboyi Ketu Lcda Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Olofin of Isheri HRM Oba Sulaiman Adekunle, Alaketu of Ketu, Oba Isiaka Oyero Balogun, Vul Israel Omotunde, and a host of other dignitaries watched the grand finale.
