• Says rehabilitation effort to bring succour to motorists
• Assures Owode-Ajegunle residents on total reconstruction of Irawo Road
The Mayor Dele Oshinowo administration has begun another round of road rehabilitation, starting with Ondo Street in Owode-Ajegunle.
Ondo Street is a major thoroughfare that connects the downtown communities in Irawo to its upper part.
Prior to this round of rehabilitation, the Mayor Dele Oshinowo administration had rehabilitated several roads with the heavy use of hardcore and crushed stones and the use of grading and roller machines to compact them.
The roads so far rehabilitated in the axis area include Irawo Road, Thomas Laniyan Street, Abeokuta and Yinka Dipe Streets, and Association Way, Thomas.
Speaking on the rehabilitation, the chairman, through his Supervisor for Works and Infrastructure, Aare Alaba Saliu, explained that the exercise was to help tackle the pain and discomfort being experienced by motorists on the bad roads.
He further noted that the exercise is a continuous one and that it will extend to all major roads in the axis.
“The responsibility of any responsive government is to enhance the welfare and well-being of its people. To achieve this, we have decided to bring succor to motorists in the Owode-Ajegunle axis. While we understand their pains, we have decided to use this little approach to ameliorate the present dark era of ugly roads in the axis.”
The chairman further assured residents of the area that the much-talked-about reconstruction of Irawo Road will commence soon, noting that all paper work for the counterpart funding arrangement with the Lagos State Government has been sealed and concluded.
