The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, H. E Peter Obi, has won the local government area (LGA) election in Kosofe, defeating his counterparts from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Announcing the results on Sunday evening at the collation center in Kosofe, Prof A. Adams, the INEC resident electoral commissioner, revealed that Obi secured 46,554 votes, while Bola Tinubu of the APC polled 36,883 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP had 4,058 votes.
Kosofe LGA has ten wards, with a total of 474,772 registered voters, out of which 94,838 were accredited to vote. The total valid votes were 94,486, with 4,098 rejected votes.
The LGA is home to several prominent APC members, including Governor Advisory council members, three Local Government Chairmen, House of Representatives and State Assembly members, and traditional leaders. Despite this, Obi emerged victorious, and there was no vote cancellation in the LGA.
Obi’s victory in Kosofe is expected to boost his chances of winning the presidential election, which is scheduled to take place in a few weeks. The election promises to be keenly contested, with several political heavyweights vying for the top job.
Reacting to the results, supporters of the Labour Party took to the streets to celebrate Obi’s victory, expressing their confidence that he would bring about positive change in the country if elected president.
The APC and PDP are yet to release official statements regarding the election results.
