The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Wing of Ward B Oworonshoki, Kosofe, has called on the newly elected lawmakers in Kosofe to carefully select their legislative aides based on merit, quality, and competency, rather than favoritism and sentiments.
Mr. Lanre Aborisade, a member of the APC Youth Wing, made the call on Tuesday, urging MHR Elect Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon Kafilat Ogbara, Lawmaker Elect Kosofe Constituency 1, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, and Lawmaker Elect Kosofe Constituency 2, Hon. Femi Saheed to engage competent legislative aides to ensure quality and effective representation.
Aborisade emphasized that the lawmakers should distribute their selection across the wards they represent, to enhance value-driven representation to their respective constituencies. He also noted that legislative business is no longer business as usual and urged the lawmakers to select aides based on their loyalty to the APC, followed by merit, quality, and competency.
Legislative aides play a crucial role in the functioning of the legislative process, providing support to legislators in public relations, administration, and political communications. They are responsible for legislative research, constituent services, grassroots organizing, legislative policy, and legislation. They work closely with legislators to track issues specific to the legislator’s district and attend meetings on their behalf.
To be a legislative aide, a bachelor’s degree in a major compatible with political or public service is typically required. With the right selection of competent legislative aides, the lawmakers in Kosofe can ensure quality representation and effectively serve their constituencies.
