Residents of Ogunsowobo street in Agboyi Ketu LCDA, Kosofe, have taken it upon themselves to clear the debris in the canal to prevent flooding in the area. The canal, which is located at Ogunsowobo street, Off Pako Plank Market, has been filled with sand and stones, leading to regular flooding and putting the lives and property of residents at risk.

One resident recounted that about four years ago, a boy lost his life due to the flood. The community took matters into their own hands on Sunday, contributing funds to remove the debris from the canal. However, the sand remains a significant obstacle, and they have appealed to the government to provide assistance to evacuate the heaps of sand and stones causing blockage in the canal.

Olawale Michael, a resident of the area, urged the government to find a lasting solution to the recurring canal problems, stating that it is vital to safeguard the lives and property of people in the community.

The Kosofe Post had previously reported that the Agboyi Ketu LCDA had deployed a swamp buggy to desilt canals across the council area, indicating that the government is working towards resolving the flooding issue in the community. However, the recent appeal from residents suggests that more needs to be done to address the situation adequately.
