Ikenne, Nigeria – In an exhilarating final match day at Remo Stars FC Stadium on Sunday, Remo Stars showcased their prowess by defeating Kwara United with an impressive scoreline of 4-0. This resounding victory secures Remo Stars a coveted spot in the Super 6 play-offs of the abridged 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Remo Stars wasted no time in asserting their dominance, netting four goals in an explosive first half. The opening goal came in the sixth minute, as Andy Okpe expertly headed home a cross from Sodiq Ismail. Seun Odunsi then doubled the lead in the ninth minute, displaying exceptional dribbling skills to outfox the goalkeeper. In the twelfth minute, Phillip Odubia found the back of the net, further extending Remo Stars’ lead. Odubia completed his brace in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick from Sodiq Ismail to make it 4-0.
Head coach Daniel Ogunmodede expressed his elation after the match, highlighting the resilience of his players and the unwavering support of the club’s owner. Ogunmodede also acknowledged the significance of securing a place in the Super 6 after the earlier deduction of three points.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Ogunmodede emphasized the need for strong leadership in defense to prevent conceding goals. He commended Ifeanyi for his vital contribution in that regard. Looking ahead to the Super 6, Ogunmodede remained cautious but confident, noting the team’s improved clinical finishing and resilience in recent matches.
Striker Andy Okpe, who returned to the lineup after recovering from injury, expressed his joy at being back on the pitch. He acknowledged the challenging times he had faced throughout the season but declared his renewed confidence and commitment to perform at his best. Okpe assured Remo Stars’ loyal fans that he and his teammates would give their all and aim to surpass last season’s achievements, setting their sights on competing for the league title.
Kwara United’s head coach, Kabiru Dogo, congratulated Remo Stars on their victory and expressed his gratitude towards the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Interim Management Committee (IMC), and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for their support throughout the series. Dogo stated that he had fulfilled the objectives assigned to him as a coach and would now focus on evaluating the team’s performance before making future decisions.
In the NPFL Group A standings, Bendel United currently leads the table with 34 points, followed closely by Remo Stars with 33 points, and Enyimba in third place with 32 points.
