Remo Stars FC of Ikenne secured a 2-1 victory over Plateau United FC of Jos in a highly contested match of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday. The match held at the new Jos Stadium and was goalless in the first 45 minutes.
In the 70th minute, substitute Saidu Salisu scored for Plateau United with a thunderous strike from outside the box. However, the lead lasted for only 10 minutes when Olamilekan Alade equalized for Remo Stars FC. Alade punished Plateau United’s defense line for failing to clear the ball out of danger.
In the 87th minute, Remo Stars FC took the lead with a long-range strike by Abayomi Adebayo. However, the home fans were not happy with the outcome of the match, and the situation degenerated into violence after the final whistle. Security personnel had to throw teargas cannisters to disperse the crowd.
As it stands, Bendel Insurance is at the top of the table with 33 points, followed by Enyimba with 31 points, and Remo Stars FC with 30 points.
