The Association of Community Media Practitioners in Nigeria (APCOM) has extended its warm congratulations to Dr. Alex Otti, the newly sworn-in fifth governor of Abia State, following his recent victory at the polls. In a letter jointly signed by APCOM President Abayomi Adejumo and Board of Trustees Secretary Austine Uche-Ejeke, the association commended Otti’s persistence and emphasized the significance of his triumph, considering his multiple previous attempts to secure the governorship.
APCOM, the umbrella body of all community media practitioners in Nigeria, acknowledged the unique history of governance in Abia State, particularly since the advent of the third republic in 1999. In light of this, the association expressed its desire to stand in solidarity with Otti’s administration during this critical phase of governance.
Recalling the challenging period Abia State has experienced under the leadership of the three previous governors—Orji Uzor Kalu, TA Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu—APCOM expressed optimism about the future and firmly asserted that those willing to confront the challenges head-on would pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
The association highlighted Otti’s distinguished background as an astute administrator and accomplished banker, underscoring the high expectations placed on him by the people of Abia. APCOM urged Otti to leverage his wealth of experience to drive the development and foster peaceful coexistence in the state.
Recognizing the influential role of community media practitioners in disseminating information and enlightening grassroots communities, APCOM sought a partnership with Otti’s administration to achieve greater goals. With their extensive reach across Nigeria’s communities, community media practitioners possess the ability to bring local issues, challenges, and problems to the forefront while simultaneously promoting the governor’s projects and accomplishments to the people of Abia State and the wider world.
APCOM further appealed to the new governor to remain attentive to the concerns and challenges facing Abia State. Key areas of focus highlighted by the association included road construction and rehabilitation, infrastructural development, prompt workers’ salary payment, and the maintenance of security within the state.
