In a remarkable celebration of Valuejet Airlines’ 365 days of safe flying, the Lasuth Lions Club District 404B2 Nigeria, in collaboration with Valuejet Airlines, organized a heartwarming medical outreach program for the elderly in Lagos. This initiative aimed to provide essential medical screenings and treatments to senior citizens while commemorating the International Day of Older Persons, observed every October.
The anniversary medical outreach program included a range of health services, such as blood sugar and blood pressure checks, eye and dental screenings, and a get-together for the elderly community. The event took place at the Family Medicine Clinic, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja.
Lion Mrs. Afolabi Folashade Mutiat, the President of the Ikeja Lasuth Lions Club, shared insights into the five core areas of humanitarian service championed by the non-governmental organization. These areas include pediatrics and cancer prevention, blindness prevention, diabetes prevention, relief of hunger, and environmental projects. She emphasized the organization’s commitment to aiding the elderly as part of their core projects.
Mutiat expressed the club’s readiness to extend assistance wherever a need arises, emphasizing the power of collaboration with Valuejet Airlines, which was celebrating its milestone in the aviation industry.
The medical outreach not only provided much-needed care to the elderly but also facilitated counseling and the opportunity for follow-up care.
Lion Afolashade conveyed gratitude to Valuejet Airlines for their generous support for the elderly and urged other non-governmental organizations to contribute to the welfare of the people, as the government cannot address all societal needs alone.
Vice President of Ikeja Lasuth Lions Club, Lion Dr. Moruf Abdulsalam, applauded ValueJets Airlines for their commitment to providing quality service to Nigerians and commemorating a year of safe flying. He reiterated the organization’s dedication to humanitarian service, including assisting vulnerable groups in society like the elderly.
Dr. Oludaisi, the Head of the Geriatric Department of Family Medicine at LASUTH, commended the hospital’s leadership and the Nigerian government for prioritizing the care of senior citizens. He emphasized the importance of providing adequate attention and care to the elderly, citing the significant impact on over 5,000 elderly individuals in Lagos since the establishment of LASUTH’s geriatric unit.
Dr. Oludaisi highlighted the hidden challenges faced by the elderly and encouraged them to seek routine check-ups to ensure their well-being. He also praised the Lasuth Lions Club and Valuejet Airlines for contributing to advocacy for senior citizens, offering free medical care, and providing palliatives.
Mrs. Eniola Afalabi, Digital Marketing Officer at ValueJets, reiterated the airline’s commitment to extending a hand to those in need and expressed enthusiasm for future opportunities to support initiatives like the medical outreach. The elderly beneficiaries conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to the event’s organizers and sponsors for their invaluable support and care.
