In the upcoming 2025 Local Government Chairmanship elections in Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), political dynamics are shifting as some chairmanship aspirants reconsider their ambitions. Notably, incumbent Chairman Princess Samiat Bada is fervently fighting for a return, leveraging her influence and strategic moves within the party.
Bada, who served as Vice Chairman for six years and assumed the role of Executive Chairman from 2019 to 2025, has strategically positioned herself by relocating the party structure to the Council Headquarters, creating an environment that seemingly favors her candidacy. This move has drawn concerns from political observers who fear a lack of a fair playing field for other potential contestants.
The eviction of the party Secretariat along Ekiti Street in 2023 due to unpaid rent arrears has inadvertently favored Bada, hindering other aspirants from showcasing themselves. Observers speculate that a primary election held under the direct supervision of an Executive Chairman with vested interests may mirror past incidents, including the controversial 2023 House of Representatives election where party-backed candidates prevailed.
While Bada’s grip on the party structure enhances her chances, potential obstacles loom. The APC Governors Advisory Council members from Kosofe Local Government, strained relations with Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, and the influence of Hon. Dayo Bush pose challenges to her bid. Political watchers emphasize the importance of a level playing field, urging the party leadership to consider relocating the party Secretariat outside Ikosi Isheri LCDA to encourage fair participation.
As the countdown to the 2025 elections begins, the battle for party supremacy and a level playing field intensifies, with aspirants preparing to make their declarations in the coming months. The ultimate decision rests not only on individual ambitions but also on the direction taken by APC kingmakers, who hold the power to shape the political landscape in Ikosi Isheri LCDA.
