The political landscape in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is heating up as the 2025 Local Government Chairmanship race gains momentum. Executive Chairman Princess Samiat Bada has not only declared her intention to run again but has also advised cabinet members eyeing the Chairmanship to resign from her administration.

During a parliamentary meeting held on Monday, Samiat Bada announced her candidacy for another term, pledging to hand over to stakeholders after completing a contentious tenure in 2029. However, anticipating resistance, she urged potential challengers to resign from her cabinet.

The impending end of the tenure for 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas Chairmen around July 2025 has heightened political activities. The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission is expected to conduct Local Government elections within 3 to 6 months before the tenure lapse.

Samiat Bada’s political journey traces back to completing her first term as Vice Chairman under the late Executive Chairman, Engr. Abdulfatai Oyesanya, before returning for a second term on a joint ticket. Following Oyesanya’s sudden death in 2019, she assumed the role of Executive Chairman, and in 2021, she won the Chairmanship amidst controversy.

Political observers weigh in on the constitutionality of Samiat Bada’s bid, with some arguing that seeking office again violates constitutional principles. Critics claim that her assumption of office in 2021 to complete second term was in order but her declaration for third term raises constitutional questions. However, supporters contend that there are no restrictions on her seeking multiple terms, citing differences from guidelines applicable to the presidency and governors.
