In light of the recent trend of political office holders’ supporters, also known as Any Government in Power (AGIP), switching allegiance following changes in leadership, a cautionary call has emerged for the political class to discern true loyalty amidst shifting tides.
Comr Mudashiru Ismaila Alabi, a prominent member of the Ikosi-Isheri APC Chapter in Kosofe, sounded the alarm during a conversation with Kosofe Post on Monday morning. Reflecting on the shifting allegiances, he emphasized the need for political figures not to be deceived by transient followership, citing examples such as former House of Representatives member Hon Rotimi Agunsoye and the late Engr. Abdulfatai Oyesanya.
Alabi remarked, “What I could understand about R.O.T is that his acclaimed political loyalists, when he was a member of the green chamber, have now shifted their loyalty. This doesn’t apply to him alone; we could learn from the death of Former Council Chairman in Ikosi-Isheri, Engr. Abdulfatai Oyesanya. That is why I always say, don’t be overwhelmed with followers; when power shifts, they shift, and you carry your problem alone. Finally, only a few people will remain with you when you are facing difficult times.”
In response to Alabi’s call, Atitebi, who also switched allegiance to the incumbent lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal constituency, Hon Kafilat Ogbara, affirmed Agunsoye’s enduring influence in Kosofe. Atitebi hailed Agunsoye, affectionately known as ROT, as the benchmark for success in the constituency, emphasizing his lasting impact and achievements.

The report by Kosofe Post highlights the repercussions of these loyalty shifts, noting the support garnered by incumbent Ikosi Isheri LCDA Vice Chairman, Hon. Thomas Ogunleye, and former Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Chairman, Mrs Abiodun Martins, among others, following the unsuccessful attempts of the lawmaker to reclaim his seat in the Green chamber.
