The Ta’awun Political Forum has officially rebranded as the Ta’awun Humanitarian Forum (THF), with a renewed focus on humanitarian services such as free healthcare, youth empowerment, and single-digit interest loans.

The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ event held in Ojota, Lagos, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Forum, Taiwo Lasisi Yussuf, explained that the change of name was necessary to reflect the organisation’s true focus.

“Recently we are now Ta’awun Humanitarian Forum, formerly Ta’awun Political Forum. The reason for the change is that we are basically humanitarian, and we intend not to limit ourselves by using the term ‘political’ in our name,” he said.

He added that the group remained non-partisan but was committed to mobilising citizens for socio-economic progress through empowerment programmes for youths, free medical outreach, workshops on citizenship roles, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Yussuf also unveiled the Ta’awun Health Initiative, a restructuring of the Forum’s activities, aimed at providing free healthcare to residents of Lagos.

In his goodwill message, Sheikh Dawood Imran, Grand Mufti of Yorubaland and National President of Jama’at Ta’awunil Muslimeen, said humanitarian work was a core part of the group’s values.

“Religion is about everything, and Islam emphasises humanitarian service. These programmes — health, charity, cooperatives, and orphanages — are designed to save people from crises that destroy families and society,” he said.

Other speakers, including Mr. Olalekan Adebayo, General Secretary of Olatunji Abebi CDA, praised the Forum for its interventions, describing them as vital to supporting vulnerable residents in the community.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, represented by Mrs. Funmilayo Olanrewaju; the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, represented by Special Adviser Hon. Onikosi Abiodun; Pastor Ogboro Olugbenga of CAN, Kosofe LGA; and representatives from the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service.
