Residents of the Mile 12 community have announced plans to stage a protest on Monday, December 22, against the ongoing demolition of homes and buildings in the area.
In a statement issued by the community’s media team, the residents described the demolition exercise as unacceptable and called for its immediate suspension. They said the planned protest is intended to draw the attention of relevant government authorities to the hardship being faced by affected residents and property owners.
The statement urged community members to come out in large numbers to ensure their grievances are clearly heard, while also appealing to residents to spread the information widely and mobilise others within and outside the community.
It further disclosed that the community’s media team would be on ground at the protest venue to engage representatives of both print and electronic media organisations, in order to ensure extensive coverage of the event.
“The destruction of our homes and buildings must stop,” the statement read, stressing that the protest is a peaceful call for government intervention and dialogue.
The notice was signed by Adeniji Adewale, Head of Media for the Mile 12 community.
