A Nigerian woman, Oyinkansola Idowu, has appealed to the public for financial assistance to undergo a hip replacement surgery, after years of living with Avascular Necrosis (AVN), a painful bone condition that has severely limited her mobility.

Oyinkansola made the appeal on Monday during a live fundraising session hosted by popular TikTok personality Royal_Everything, where she disclosed that she earns about ₦20,000 monthly as a salesgirl.

Speaking during the live stream, she revealed that doctors at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, had as far back as 2021 recommended a total hip replacement surgery, estimated to cost ₦7 million. She added that although she previously raised ₦1 million through another fundraising platform, the amount fell significantly short of what was required.

According to her, the condition has drastically impaired her quality of life, forcing her to walk with the aid of walking sticks and preventing her from performing basic physical activities.

“I can no longer bend properly, spread my legs, sit on motorcycles, pick things from the floor, or climb stairs. Even raising my shoulders is now difficult due to pain,” she said.

During the live session anchored by Royal_Everything, a passionate appeal was made to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support her treatment. Within slightly over an hour, donations amounting to ₦1.4 million were raised. Combined with her earlier ₦1 million, a total of ₦2.4 million has now been secured, leaving a ₦4.6 million shortfall.
