The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has approved the appointment of three new Education Secretaries for Agege, Ikorodu, and Alimosho Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), as part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of education policies at the grassroots.
The appointments were ratified during the Board’s Second Statutory Meeting of the year, held at LASUBEB Headquarters under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Shittu.
Speaking on the development, Dr. Shittu described the appointments as a strategic move to improve administrative efficiency, enhance school supervision, and ensure state education policies translate into measurable outcomes across the LGEAs. He emphasised that strong leadership at the local level is critical to delivering quality basic education, particularly in alignment with the technology-driven focus of the third pillar of the Lagos State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda.
One of the newly appointed officials, Mr. Taiwo Odumbo Abiodun, Education Secretary of Ikorodu LGEA, highlighted the role of the appointees, describing Education Secretaries as the “eyes of the Board” at the grassroots. He explained that they are expected to provide professional leadership, coordinate educational activities, and ensure strict compliance with approved standards and guidelines in public primary schools across the state.
The appointments take immediate effect. The newly appointed Education Secretaries are: Mr. Taiwo Odumbo Abiodun (Ikorodu), Dr. Aminat Olawunmi Ige (Alimosho), and Mrs. Janat Bashorun-Olokodana (Agege).
