The political landscape of the Kosofe Federal Constituency witnessed a significant development this week as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially submitted the name of Mayor Dele Oshinowo to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal, formally confirming him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.

The submission has been widely celebrated by party supporters and stakeholders, who see the development as a decisive resolution to the uncertainties that followed the party’s primary election.

The journey to Oshinowo’s official nomination began on May 16, 2026, when the APC conducted its primary election for the Kosofe Federal Constituency seat.

Although several aspirants accepted the outcome of the exercise and congratulated Oshinowo on his victory, the process was not entirely free from controversy. Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, the incumbent member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, challenged the validity of the primary election, leading to weeks of speculation, claims, and counterclaims within the local political space.

The APC National Working Committee’s decision to upload Oshinowo’s details to the INEC portal effectively validates the outcome of the May 16 primary election and aligns with the report submitted by the primary election returning officer, Hon. Sesan Dada.

The development also reinforces the earlier position of the Lagos State chapter of the APC, which had previously recognised Oshinowo as the duly elected candidate of the party for the constituency.

For many party members, the official nomination represents the end of internal disputes surrounding the primaries and marks the beginning of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

With his candidacy now formally recognised at the national level, Mayor Dele Oshinowo is expected to spearhead the APC’s campaign efforts in the Kosofe Federal Constituency as the party seeks to retain its political dominance in the area.

Party stakeholders have also called for unity and reconciliation among members, urging all aspirants and supporters to put the primary contest behind them and work collectively toward securing victory for the APC in the 2027 polls.

The submission of Oshinowo’s name to the INEC portal marks a crucial milestone in the constituency’s political journey and sets the stage for what is expected to be an intense electoral contest in the lead-up to the general election.
