Mayor Dele Oshinowo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kosofe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has flagged off a free healthcare programme targeting 4,000 residents across the constituency.
The initiative, tagged Kosofe Cares, is being implemented by the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation (MDOF) in partnership with Seyi Tinubu.
The flag-off ceremony, held at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat in Ogudu, attracted residents, community leaders and beneficiaries from different parts of the constituency.
Programme Expands Previous Healthcare Intervention
The 4,000-beneficiary target represents an expansion of the foundation’s previous healthcare intervention, through which 2,000 residents reportedly received health insurance coverage and medical support in 2025.
Under the expanded programme, beneficiaries are being enrolled in or supported to renew their coverage under the Lagos State ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme, alongside access to immediate medical services.
The services include free health insurance registration and renewal, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, general medical consultations, and health education.
Beneficiaries are also receiving counselling on managing conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, maintaining healthy lifestyles, as well as essential medications and other healthcare supplies.
Oshinowo: Health Must Not Be a Privilege
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Oshinowo said the intervention reflects his belief that a healthy population is essential to community development.
“A healthy people is a wealthy constituency,” he said, stressing that Kosofe’s development depends partly on residents having access to quality healthcare.
He explained that the partnership with Seyi Tinubu was aimed at bringing free ILERA EKO enrolment and medical checks closer to residents, adding that access to healthcare should be a right rather than a privilege reserved for the wealthy.
Among those who benefited from the initial exercise were elderly residents, persons with disabilities and young people, some of whom expressed appreciation for the intervention.
Outreach to Cover Ikosi-Isheri and Agboyi-Ketu
Following the initial flag-off at Ogudu, organisers said the outreach would extend to Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Agboyi-Ketu LCDA to reach residents across the three council areas within Kosofe Federal Constituency.
Residents have been encouraged to participate in the remaining outreach sessions and take advantage of the available medical services and health insurance support.
The programme is expected to provide additional access to basic healthcare services while supporting efforts to reduce the financial burden of medical expenses on households across the constituency.
