Hundreds of residents from Isheri, Olowora and Magodo in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, have commended the Kosofe Cares Free Healthcare Programme for providing access to medical services at no cost.

The outreach entered its fourth day as residents turned out to benefit from medical consultations, health screenings and other services under the initiative.

The nine-day programme, organised by Mayor Dele Oshinowo, former Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kosofe Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, in partnership with philanthropist Seyi Tinubu, aims to reach more than 4,000 residents.

The medical intervention, delivered under the Lagos State ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme, offers free health insurance enrolment and renewal, medication, tuberculosis testing, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, medical consultations, eye examinations and prescription glasses.

Residents Share Experiences

Some beneficiaries said the outreach provided an opportunity to identify and address health conditions they might otherwise have ignored because of the cost of medical care.

Madam Edirin Ararirhe said she visited the centre after hearing about the programme because she was concerned about her health.

“When I heard of this programme, I rushed here this morning to enjoy the free healthcare service because I didn’t know what was wrong with me,” she said.

Ararirhe explained that medical personnel discovered she had high blood pressure during her check-up and provided the necessary attention.

She expressed gratitude to the organisers and urged them to sustain the intervention annually, particularly for residents who cannot afford hospital bills.

“I am very happy. So many people have died because of this. Some will claim that it is witchcraft that has caused the problem, not knowing that it is a medical issue,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Adebimpe Ishola, commended the medical team for the attention she received and the orderly conduct of the exercise.

“I thank the organisers for this initiative. I came for a check-up and everything went smoothly and orderly,” she said.

Mrs Wasilat Ogundipe also expressed appreciation, saying the programme provided timely medical attention for residents, including children, parents and vulnerable members of the community.

She said ILERA EKO officials registered her before medical personnel checked her blood pressure and blood sugar levels, adding that doctors attended to her promptly.

Similarly, Mrs Gbemisola Alalade, a resident of Isheri, described the outreach as a welcome relief for people facing financial difficulties in accessing healthcare.

She said the initiative had helped residents reduce their healthcare expenses and expressed hope that it would continue.

“The outreach has saved us significant healthcare costs, and we hope it continues because it offers access to quality healthcare,” Alalade said.

Bada Urges Residents to Prioritise Health

Speaking during the exercise, the Director-General of the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Campaign Team for Kosofe Federal Constituency, Princess Abolanle Bada, urged beneficiaries to make regular health checks part of their routine.

Bada, who is also the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, encouraged residents to participate in the forthcoming elections scheduled for January 16 and vote for their preferred candidates.

She specifically called for support for Oshinowo, the APC candidate for the House of Representatives seat, and Dr Muritala Ishola Seriki, the party’s candidate for Kosofe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Oshinowo, in his remarks, pledged to sustain medical outreach programmes for residents of the constituency if elected into the House of Representatives.

He also urged residents to support APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The Kosofe Cares outreach is scheduled to run until November 7, 2026, covering Kosofe Local Government Area, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
