Hundreds of residents of Oko-Agbon, Papa, Cele and Ilaje communities in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, benefited from the eighth day of the Kosofe Cares free medical outreach on Friday.

The outreach, organised by the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation (MDOF) in partnership with Seyi Tinubu, held at Oko-Agbon Junction, Agboyi 1, one of the settlements within the Agboyi waterfront community.

Speaking with residents, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, a former Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kosofe Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, said the programme was designed to reach people facing financial and geographical barriers to healthcare.

The nine-day initiative aims to provide healthcare services to more than 4,000 residents across the constituency, particularly children, older people, widows and other vulnerable groups.

The services include enrolment in the Lagos State ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme, medical consultations, medication, tuberculosis testing, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, eye examinations and prescription glasses.

Oshinowo, who led the outreach alongside members of his team, said the initiative was intended to bring basic healthcare closer to communities where residents often struggle to access medical facilities or afford treatment.

He added that the foundation would continue to identify communities with pressing humanitarian needs and develop interventions to address them.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mrs Tolani Abubakar, said the outreach had provided residents with access to medical consultations, health checks, medication and health education over the eight days.

She encouraged residents of the riverine communities to take advantage of the programme and enrol in the ILERA EKO scheme.

Abubakar also urged residents to support APC candidates in the forthcoming 2027 elections.

The initiative received commendations from beneficiaries and community stakeholders.

The APC Publicity Secretary in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mr Tunji Arigbabuwo, urged residents of the riverine communities to appreciate Oshinowo for facilitating the outreach in partnership with Seyi Tinubu and the ILERA EKO scheme.

“Mayor Dele Oshinowo is a man who has the people at heart. Some people will only be collecting chieftaincy titles, but Oshinowo is committed to serving his constituency.

“It is also a plus for the people of Agboyi because this is the first time we will be having a House of Representatives candidate from this community. This is why we will work tirelessly to ensure his victory at the polls,” he said.

Arigbabuwo added that medical personnel were providing consultations and distributing free medication to residents.

A community leader and beneficiary, Alhaji Babatunde Ajala, said the outreach had helped residents identify health conditions they were previously unaware of and take steps towards managing them.

He described the initiative as welcome, but called for similar interventions beyond the 2027 elections.

“Many of us didn’t know the extent of our health problems until now. Thanks to the free tests and treatments, people can now take control of their health,” Ajala said.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Ibironke Smith, said the programme had helped her access medication for diabetes, which she had struggled to afford.

“If not for this outreach, I wouldn’t have been able to access the medication I need. I’m deeply grateful to the foundation, ILERA EKO and Seyi Tinubu for his support,” she said.

Miss Omolara Cyril, a trader, also commended the outreach, saying it was not the first time Oshinowo had supported residents. She urged him to sustain such interventions after the elections.
