Stop Drug Abuse: Mixed feelings Trail Advocacy by Lawmakers in Lagos

Following the alarming rate of drug abuse by youth and old people in our society the Lagos State House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon.Rtd Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa embarked on aggressive critical life saving mission by organising sensitization programme across 40 state Constituencies in Lagos.

Kosofe Constituency 1 was anchored by Lagos lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 and Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Babatunde Okanlawon.

Okanlawon, who set up Moyo Ogunlewe Education Committee before he rose to become the house committe on Education stressed the need to stop or reduced the abuse of drugs prevalence among the young people.

Some residents who have reacted to the awareness campaigns geared towards curbing the menace in their different views.

In his reaction Former Senior Special Adviser on Religious Matters to Kosofe Local Government, Ganiu Oyebanjo described substance consumption as lives destroyer.

“It has destroyed millions of our youths”, Ganiu Oyebanjo.

A notable social critics and former Councilors ship candidate for Shaginsha Magodo’Ward B’ Area of Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area, Hon. Folorusho Sulyman better known as Opomulero has said the menace is a man made problems and the solution to end it lies with the people.

in his words,”I have a serious problem with the drug abuse message all this dishonorable members are sending. Most of them are drug addict themselves. They use the drug peddlers to destroy election themselves”.

“I commend Babatunde Okanlawon for the laudable sensitization campaign. Other Community Stakeholders most especially the Christian Association of Nigeria and League of Imam and Alfas, Community Development Associations, Residents Associations, others should sustain the campaigns in their respective Communities.

The state Assembly should come up with whistleblower incentive that will attract citizens to raise alarm inorder to nip the menace in bud- Benedict. O.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Corp (LSNC) know the sellers and buyers in the nooks and crannies of our Communities. They should give corps more power to arrest people Hawking the snuff with impunity on our streets according to Tunde Adewale.
