Senator Tokunbo Abiru unveiled Scholarship Board, Awards Bursary to 600 indigents Students

The Senator representing Lagos East senatorial District at the National Assembly, Tokunbo Abiru has unveiled Scholarship Board and Awards Bursary indigents Students.

All the 600 higher institution students who attended the event on Thursday at Lagos Polytechnic Ikorodu were the beneficiary

While addressing the guests Senator Tokunbo reiterated his passion for providing good for the greater number of people.

Abiru who has achieved unprecedented feats in less than 10 months in the saddle said he will not relent in impacting lives of constituents of the Lagos East District.

He said young people are at the core of his legislative agenda adding that he will continue to champion initiatives that will positively impact their lives and prepare them for the opportunities in the current digital and knowledge economy.

“Barely two months ago, in this same auditorium, I delivered a goodwill message via a pre-recorded video to a large audience of youth in the Lagos East Senatorial District in commemoration of the 2021 International Youth Day.

“I want to reiterate like I espoused on that day that young people are at the core of our legislative agenda.

The minimum we can do as leaders and in fidelity with our social contract with the esteemed constituents who fall within this demography is to provide support for their dreams to have full and maximum expression”

“I want to let you know that I am passionate about ensuring ‘greater good for greater number’.

“This mantra guides my philosophy and strategy in giving a lease of life to our people as much as it is within my power. The tactics to drive home this strategy is encapsulated in the resonating and reassuring ‘DOING GOOD’ drive.

“One of the major agenda on my social contract with the good people of Lagos East Senatorial District is youth development for global readiness, Abiru stressed.

Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Education, Tokunbo Wahab who spoke during the programme claimed that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration was determined to increase human capacity by investing huge amount in education sector.

“There’s nothing more than investment in human capacity we can’t exceed it. He stressed that without proper investment in human capacity in form of education and health, which are at the topmost level of Development index because investment is driving by human capacity nothing else.”

Speaking further he urged the Lagos East senatorial District to catch-up with education.

“With due respect, Lagos East senatorial District need to catch-up. catching up start with education.”

“Senator, what you are doing for our people Today is not just an investment. you are showing them the light and path to development.”

“The multiplier effect of our 600 best given bursary awards goes beyond the 600, its motivates other students in the ecosystem, He said

He noted that Governor Babajide Sanwoolu in the last 2 years has given 493 Million to 27,000 students as Bursary Awards, 499Million as scholarship to 2801 students. He thanked Senator Tokunbo Abiru for complimenting the effort of the Governor by his remarkable gesture in education sector.

Lagos State House of Assembly speaker, Rtd. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa represented By House Committee Chairman on Education Honourable, Sanni Okanlawon described the distinguished senator Abiru scholarship Board as phenomenal and laudable initiative.

He noted that Senator Abiru has done well coming up with the idea of helping indigent students in institutions of higher learning in Lagos East senatorial District. “This act is indeed commendable and worthy of emulation,” He said.

The beneficiaries said its big succour to their educational pursuits, expressed their profound appreciation to the Federal lawmaker for his uncommon gesture.

The highlight of the programme was the symbolic presentation of Cheque to beneficiaries.
