He was at the historic Ikorodu Central Mosque, Ijomu to observe the Jummah prayers on Friday. Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA got more than the blessings of Jummah. He was given a heroic reception and was turbaned as the Ekerin Adinni of Ikorodu.
The Chief Imam Seifudeen Jamiu Adenoritan Olowooribi(Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu) said the Senator’s father, The Late Honourable Justice Mubasheer Akanbi Abiru was also accorded similar honour as Ekeerin Jamiu of Ikorodu.
“Today, we returned the Ekeerin Jamiu to the Abiru family by conferring this title on Senator Tokunbo Abiru. You have taken over from where your illustrious father left. Your father did well and already paid your dues”, Imam Olowooribi declared to the admiration of worshippers.
The revered cleric also told the congregation on how senator Abiru has been touching lives since he got into the office as the Senator representing the Lagos East . He noted that the Senator had started fulfilling promises he made before the Muslim Ummah when he was seeking their mandate.
The Imam recalled that over 2500 vulnerable members of the public are benefitting the monthly COVID-19 relief financial assistance from the Senator. He also informed that 600 tertiary institution students got bursary from the Senator and the delivery of 24 classrooms and 16 toilets at Aga Primary School among other laudable achievements.
In his response, Abiru thanked the congregation for their support during the election.
He said, “I thank you for this turbaning. It is a surprise. It was this morning that I told Baba (Imam) that I am in Ikorodu today and I will ensure I observe my Jummah prayers here. I didn’t know that I will be turbaned at the Mosque. I really appreciate this.
“So on this journey; I want to assure you that I am serving selflessly not seeking personal interest. Just like what Baba (Chief Imam)said, even before we started collecting any money in Abuja, I have been supporting the vulnerable people like the aged, widows, unemployed youths, physically challenged.
“It will interest you to know that I didn’t pick a single soul among these 2500 people. Across the entire 98 wards, we ensured that we reached out to the needy. We picked 10 people from each ward.
Stakeholders including clerics, party structure and leaders submitted names of needy in their communities for the scheme”.
Muslim faithful and residents of the Ijomu area came out enmasse in solidarity with the Senator and to celebrate the title conferred on him.
