A UK-based Nigerian freelance journalist, Dare Lasisi, has sternly warned Nigerians to do away with Nigerian mentality whenever they are outside their country, and also not to think of using connection or exorbitant money to solve issues in the western world.
Mr Lasis made this statement in respect to Mr Femi Akinwumi’s, post on his Facebook page disclosing how some Nigerians were deported back to Nigeria due to their failure to follow simple instructions from the Canadian authority regarding COVID-19 quarantine policies.
Earlier on, Mr Demi posted that, “Nigerians with Canadian permanent residency got their status revoked and deported for flouting COVID quarantine regulations. I believe they would have gotten their citizenship revoked and extradited if they have gotten the citizenship status.”
In his word, Mr Lasisi, stated that, “as a Nigerian, once you’re outside your country, you’re in a foreign country, you need to remove the “Nigerian mentality” from your brain as urgently as possible. Don’t think you can use “connections” or plenty of money to solve issues.”
He stated that the affected Nigerians who were recently deported back to Nigeria for not following the simple COVID-19 quarantine policy will either blame their village witches or just tag Canada as a racist country.u
“How can you just waste such a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to finally relocate to Canada from Nigeria? Destiny or ignorance? He asked.
These Nigerians were not found at home when Canadian officials visited them at home to check if they were really in self-isolation for 14 days. They were all outside for shopping and tourism!
He also shared his experience with the Scottish health officials when he returned to Scotland from Nigeria this year January 2021.
He said he was closely monitored by the Scottish health officials to see that he was sincerely following the Covid-19 self-isolation policy.
“I received many phone calls to determine my exact location.” He said.
He also claimed that, “if you’re not born in a foreign country, but you obtained your citizenship – foreign passports, through naturalization, marriage, education, asylum, or other means, it can still be cancelled and revoked if you break some laws.”
One of the successful Nigerian bankers in Qatar, Yemi Emiola said,
“I don’t care how rich and how many times you’ve travelled out of Nigeria either for holidays or on business trips, if you’ve not lived or worked in the western world you are still as ignorant as someone who has never left the shore of Nigeria! You can quote me on this any day, anytime.”
To really understand the system in foreign countries, you must live and work in the system, not because you always visit for holiday not lasting more than 6 weeks. That’s the bitter truth.
