Lavender House emerges as the overall winner

The Unique Prella Montessori Nursery, Primary, and College, Ikorodu, Lagos, a co-educational institution, held its inter-house sports competition on Friday, April 8, 2022.
Although the citadel of learning held a memorable cultural day a few months ago, this is the second edition of the annual sports fiesta.

The elated students were joined by their proud parents, teachers, school management, guests, other schools invited for relay races, and well-wishers who trooped out in numbers to watch the learners battle for honours.
The memorable sporting event took place at the Strong Tower Academy Playground, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Unique Prella is divided into four houses: Lavender, which is the purple house; Blue, which is Sapphire; Yellow, which is Topaz; and Emerald, whose colour is green.

The four houses competed for honours in track and field events such as match passing, 25m race, 50m race, 75m race, 100m race, 200m race, 400m race, sack race, and relay race, long jump, and high jump.

Other recreational sports such as filling in the bottles, running in daddy’s slippers, bursting the balloon, filling the bucket, blindfold race, drinking competition, slipper race, and picking the balls, among others, were also on display.

At the end of the keenly contested event, the Lavender House came out on top with 20 gold medals, Sapphire came a close second with 15 gold medals, Topaz was third with 10 gold medals, and the Emerald House came a distant 4th with 6 gold medals.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Occasion, Mr. Ayanuga Ayandeji, congratulated the parents, students, and school management.
He also commended the institution for exposing their students to sporting activities, while also saying the colours of the houses represent nature.
He said, “Sports are about developing skills, or the other side of education, in children. There are some children who are good when it comes to psychomotor activities rather than just concentrating on education.
Some of them don’t have the talents or what it takes to cope with school activities in terms of the educational aspect. So, we try as much to introduce inter-house sports to develop talents outside the classrooms.
He urged parents and Nigeria to continue to develop sports. “Whenever we come across any students who are good in other aspects of learning, parents should encourage them because sports are also part of education,” he continues.

In her welcome address, the proprietress, who doubles as the Director of Schools, Mrs. Owenaze Blessing, said the inter-house sports competition is the second since the school started.
She thanked the parents for their financial and material contributions for making the event a huge success despite the country’s economic situation.
