Lukmon Olaoluwa, Secretary, Council of Elders in Oworonshoki Kingdom in Lagos State, says there is no rivalry among members of the ruling royal family concerning the Oloworo of Oworonshoki throne.
Olaoluwa disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday following reports of a dispute.
He said that the new traditional ruler of the town, Oba Babatunde Saliu, was chosen after series of consultations from the oracle of the land.
He said: “There is no grievances anywhere.
“Our new traditional leader was chosen after various consultations from the oracle and we did everything according to the traditions of the land without being sentimental.
“Because the throne is not an ordinary position, the king must be carefully chosen so that we won’t regret our actions in the future.
“So there is no rancour among the family and the entire community is peaceful.”
Chief Akibu Owoseeni, Bada of Oworoshoki, said the community had been peaceful and that there was no rancour in the royal family concerning the kingship stool.
Owoseeni said that kingmakers and elders of Oworoshoki had made enough enquiries and consultations from the gods of the land before choosing Saliu as the new traditional leader.
He said: “Babatunde Saliu, Elebo of Oworoshoki, the elders believe will put in his best to make Oworonshoki greater than ever before.”
Surajudeen Afolabi, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Oworonshoki Council of Elders, also told NAN that although all the princes had right to the throne, but only God chooses who becomes the king.
Afolabi said: “We thank Almighty God for choosing for us and we accept him as our king for the betterment of the community.
“Oracle chooses the king, though all the sons of late Oba Oloruntoyin Saliu are entitled to the throne, but the will of the gods according to Yoruba culture and tradition must be accomplished.”
Ahmed Saliu, the eldest son of the late traditional leader, said that the royal family was one big family, adding that there was no dispute among the princes concerning the installation of the new traditional ruler.
Saliu said: “We are one big family.
“We are bound with a blood, which is our late father.
“There may be issues, but it will be sorted out.
“We are bound with one love.”
NAN reports that the Lagos State Government on June 15 installed Saliu, a former Vice-Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, as the new Oloworo of Oworonshoki.
