Tree planting is lifelong investment to attaining 17 Sustainable Development Goals – Mayor Dele Oshinowo

The Executive Chairman, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mayor Dele Oshinowo has stated that tree planting is a lifelong investment to positively impact on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The first citizen made this known at the 14th anniversary to mark the annual Lagos Tree Planting Day activated by the Lagos State Government on 14th July,2008.

Addressing the gathering, the chairman elucidated that the planting exercise was held at a school premises to promote climate and environmental literacy a among students.

Represented by his deputy, Mrs. Folake Kayode further noted that the tree planting program was geared towards galvanising and mobilising residents of the LCDA in achieving a clean and green environment.

On his part, the representative of the Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Mrs. Eniola Otunkoya averred that the annual tree planting event symbolizes the commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-olu administration to supporting the survival of humanity.

Obafemi Hamzat noted that the theme of this year’s event “In Harmony with Nature” reminds humanity of the need to be fair to nature and other living beings.

“Dear Lagosians, the environmental crisis did not begin globally; it began locally. One of the most important aspects of rearticulating human development is to be fair to nature and other living beings. We cannot be developed unless our lives become reconnected and in balance, cooperation and harmony with nature”

Also speaking, the Supervisor for Environment, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Hon. Peter Bamisaye urged residents of the locality to plant trees for celebrations in order to achieve a zero-carbon LCDA.

The highpoints of the event were planting of trees and cultural display by students of Comprehensive Senior High School, Alapere.
