No fewer than 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kosofe area of Lagos State have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of next year’s general elections.
This was contained in a statement issued by 2021 PDP councillorship candidate for Ward B, Ikosi Isheri LCDA area of Kosofe, Hon. Florence Odunaya, who hosted defectors in Shaginsha on Saturday.
According to Florence, the defectors, who are businessmen, artisans, community leaders, and youth groups from zones across Shangisha and Magodo, were received by the state PDP’s former women’s leader, Deaconess Bisi M. Odunsi, in Shaginsha on Friday.
Odunsi, while congratulating the new entrants, assured them of equal treatment with other members of the PDP.
The PDP woman leader promised the party would carry the new members along while calling on them to use their wealth of experience in politics and business activities to ensure the party’s success at the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Also speaking, the Shaginsha-Magodo PDP councillorship candidate, Florence Odunaya, welcomed the new members and promised to work closely with all of them toward the party’s success.
Florence congratulated the defectors, stating, “Their decision has shown their collective zeal to support our party leadership to send APC parking in Kosofe and Lagos.”
She decried the security challenges, subsidies, exchange rate, and policies under President Muhammad Buhari’s led administration in the last 8 years.
“Today, the APC government has added more to our problems. The security challenges have taken another dimension. We now have kidnapping, banditry, Fulani herdsmen, etc. A dollar is now N710. Subsidies continue to exist.”
She implored them to vote for Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, for Lagos State Governor; Nicholas Akobada for the Lagos East Senatorial District seat; Florence Adepegba for Kosofe Federal Constituency; and Ibrahim Balogun in Kosofe Constituency 2, respectively.
Comrade Muyiwa Michael, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, stated that their decision was motivated by their belief in the development efforts of the previous PDP-led government in the country.
Muyiwa promised their total loyalty and support to the PDP and assured them they would work together with the party leadership to ensure its success in the forthcoming general elections.
