Kosofe has been a major player in the politics of Lagos state since its inception. A well-situated area with a great ambiance is what distinguishes kosofe from the rest. Kosofe is blessed with a strategic geographical location that bordered other areas in the Lagos metropolis. We have great, energetic, youthful, and vibrant council chairmen/chairpersons in larger kosofe that are piloting the affairs of their respective councils, in the persons of Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe(Kosofe LG), Mayor Oladele Oshinowo(Agboyi-Ketu LCDA), and Mayoress Samiat Abolanle Bada(Ikosi-Isheri LCDA) respectively. They are doing their best concerning the subventions allotted to them.
Before I proceed, I’ll like to honor our fallen heroes in kosofe, who were instrumental to our history in kosofe. In no particular order, Alhaji Sunmola, Sen. Adebayo Oshinowo(pepperito), Alhaji Abdulfatai oyesanya(oyesco), Hon. Taofeek Olatunde Buraimoh(Big daddy), Hon.Obafemi Durosimi, Pastor Oshineye, and so on. May their souls continue to rest in peace.
How have we faired in larger kosofe despite having thoroughly-bred politicians at our disposal? Are we better of as a people in Kosofe, Agboyi-Ketu, and Ikosi-Isheri? Are the leaders leading their followers in the right direction or otherwise? Has the GAC Leaders been a bunch of blessings or not? How is kosofe fairing in Lagos East Senatorial District? Are we prepared for the 2023 Elections in Larger kosofe? These are the barrage of questions in my mind, begging for answers.
In my own opinion, the problem we have in larger kosofe is more of leadership than followership. The leaders are not pragmatic in their approach to conflict resolutions and internal wranglings within the party. The followers too have their shortcomings in feeding the leaders with incorrect information, thereby backbiting their fellow party members before certain leaders to be in the good book of the leader, in which the said myopic leader will act stupidly on the incorrect or false information, thereby causing a rift that could linger for a long period.
Our 2 GAC Leaders are in their old age and they ought to steer the affairs of the party on larger kosofe in the right direction. Though they are doing their best, more still needed to be done in the area of reconciliation and inclusivity of warring members. We know of some LGs that are doing well between their GAC Leaders and party members. Can such be said of Larger kosofe? I leave that to the conscience of APC Kosofe members to answer.
Are we prepared for the forthcoming general elections in kosofe? I will say NO. My reasons for saying NO is that some party members felt left out in the scheme of things at the last ward, LG, and state congresses that produced new excos. Kosofe needs to harmonize all APC members to have a great outing at the forthcoming election. We have 4 candidates in the coming elections namely, Senate, House of Reps, Kosofe Constituency 1 & 2. The candidates should extend hands of fellowship to their fellow aspirants, to close ranks to win the coming elections. I learned a lot of political idiosyncrasies from my father,(LATE CHIEF THOMAS ADEREMI ADEBAYO (AJAGUNNA OF EFON ALAAYE) ALIAS BABA ROCKY FELLER). May God rest his soul. He used to tell me that “there are no cast-away people in politics, everyone is important at one point or another”.
Lastly, My advice to the leaders is to create a more permeable ambiance for followers to thrive in oneness and sincerity of purpose and eschew, “I AM FOR PAUL, YOU ARE FOR APOLLO, ” politics. The united we stand, Divided we scatter
