The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Candidate for Kosofe I, Lagos State House of Assembly, Lanre Carew has described the introduction of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) as the real game changer in the ongoing presidential election.
Carew made this known after casting his vote in Kosofe, Lagos on Saturday.
The candidate noted that the introduction of BVAS would reduce electoral malpractice in the country. He said the technology had made the accreditation process extremely faster compared to the card reader used in previous elections.
Carew said the massive turnout of voters had indicated that Nigerians wanted to change the narrative and the people in his constituency wanted to do the same. “I have never seen what I saw today because of the level of enthusiasm from excited voters. At the moment, I am still in shock with the massive turnout of voters across the polling units that I visited so far. Like I said, the turnout has shown the level of enthusiasm from the electorate,” he said.
The candidate said he was extremely happy and confident that the electoral process would be free, fair and credible at the end of the election. “The introduction of BVAS is a step in the right direction towards ensuring a free, fair, and credible election. I believe this is what Nigerians have been clamoring for, and the government must be commended for adopting such technology,” he added.
Meanwhile, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election. The use of BVAS has been praised by many, as it reduces the chances of electoral malpractice and makes the accreditation process faster and more efficient.
