The people of Agboyi Island Wards H and I have delivered massive votes to the APC Presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu in the last Saturday’s presidential election, seeking attention from Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. The Agboyi ancient community with two wards (H& I) and Ward F out of the 10 wards in Kosofe delivered votes to APC on Saturday while other wards failed woefully despite their promises to the party, as reported by Kosofe Post.
The Akogun of Agboyi Kingdom and the apex member Agboyi ward I, Hon. Ebenezer Ogunseye, noted that Agboyi had always been the savoir of massive votes for the progressives, right from the days of Ikeja district. He added that this could be traced before the creation of Mushin and Somolu up to Kosofe. Agboyi Island has always been known for their political consistency for the progressives.
However, the community has always been the most neglected old Federal Wards in today’s Kosofe and Agboyi Ketu LCDA. In addition, the election has come to separate Agboyi Island from other leaders who could not deliver their unit. Almost all office holders lost their unit and wards to the opposition, not just losing but couldn’t mobilize more than 50 votes in their unit. The results in Agboyi Island separate the real voters from the noise makers before the election.
Ogunseye said even the APC juicy appointment and development had not been coming their way, adding that they labor why others enjoyed their labor. According to him, the underdevelopment in Agboyi has created an avenue for low turnout of votes since development brings about movement of people. However, the appointment of the Special Adviser on Political to the Speaker of House Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Prince Oladega Ibrahim kehinde had given them hope and a sense of belonging.
Ogunseye added that the emergence of the Oba Olu Agboyi had given the community a leader that could lead them at this critical time. The people of Agboyi Island have expressed their desire for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take notice of their consistent support for the APC party and to prioritize the development of their community in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. They hope that with their massive votes in the presidential election, they will receive the attention they deserve and see positive change in their community.
